Molecular Identification of Clinical Rothia Isolates from Human Patients: Proposal of a Novel Rothia Species, Rothia arfidiae sp. nov

چکیده
Four Gram-positive cocci were isolated from the cerebrospinal fluid or blood of four different patients, but they could not be identified by an automated conventional identification system, so they were identified using cellular fatty acid (CFA) composition analysis and 16S rRNA gene sequencing analysis. Of these, two strains (SMC-A2662 and SMCA5889), which were previously supposed to be Rothia dentocariosa according to the API Coryne system, were identified as Rothia aeria by the 16S rRNA gene analysis. SMC-A608, which was unidentified by both the VITEK2 and API Coryne systems, was identified as Rothia mucilaginosa. The one remaining SMC-2244 was distinguished from the other Rothia species by its biochemical profile, its CFA composition and its 16S rRNA gene sequence. Phylogenetic analysis showed that it was closely related to Rothia nasimurium but the 16S rRNA gene sequence dissimilarity of 1.8% was enough to differentiate it from R. nasimurium. Based on both the phenotypic and phylogenetic evidence, we propose a new species name for this bacterium, Rothia arfidiae sp. nov. The results of this study show that several Rothia species were isolated from human and we have identified them using 16S rRNA gene sequences.

Rothia terrae sp. nov. isolated from soil in Taiwan.
A cream-white-coloured, aerobic, Gram-positive, ovoid to spherical-shaped bacterial strain, designated L-143(T), was isolated from soil in Taiwan. The highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of strain L-143(T) (98.3-95.8%) were with members of the genus Rothia. Chemotaxonomic and phenotypic properties of this organism were consistent with its classification in the genus Rothia. The novel is...
متن کاملRothia bacteremia: a 10-year experience at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota.
Rothia spp. are Gram-positive cocco-bacilli that cause a wide range of serious infections, especially in immunocompromised hosts. Risk factors for Rothia mucilaginosa (previously known as Stomatococcus mucilaginosus) bacteremia include prolonged and profound neutropenia, malignancy, and an indwelling vascular foreign body. Here, we describe 67 adults at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, from 20...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequences of Three Novel Low-Abundance Species Strains Isolated from Kefir Grain
We report here the genome sequences of three novel bacterial species strains-Bacillus kefirresidentii Opo, Rothia kefirresidentii KRP, and Streptococcus kefirresidentii YK-isolated from kefir grains collected in Germany. The draft genomes of these isolates were remarkably dissimilar (average nucleotide identities, 77.80%, 89.01%, and 92.10%, respectively) to those of the previously sequenced st...
متن کاملElectrochemical behaviour of microbes on orthodontic wires
The aim of the present study is to investigate the electrochemical behaviour of orthodontic wires in artificial saliva with and without bacteria. Four factors were considered to characterize the bacteria present in the saliva, viz. urban and rural groups of vegetarians and non-vegetarians. The results showed that among the heterotrophic bacterial isolates, Gram-positive species dominated over t...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of a Porcine Commensal, Rothia nasimurium, Encoding a Nonribosomal Peptide Synthetase Predicted To Produce the Ionophore Antibiotic Valinomycin
We report the draft whole-genome sequence of Rothia nasimurium isolated from a porcine tonsil. The genome encodes a nonribosomal peptide synthetase predicted to produce valinomycin, a cyclic dodecadepsipeptide ionophore. Previously, valinomycin was known to be produced only by Streptomyces species and isolates belonging to the Bacillus pumilus group.
